Jinan, known as the City of Springs, is part of a major megalopolis and an important sub-provincial city. It is also the political, economic, cultural, and financial center of Shandong province.

Laiwu district achieved a regional GDP of 59.35 billion yuan ($8.57 billion), a year-on-year growth of 7.2 percent in 2019. Revenue in general public budgets reached 3.01 billion yuan, an increase of 8.2 percent. The added value of industries above designated size rose by 9.4 percent.
